As promised, we’re working on bringing a ton of editorial and inspiring content to our blog in 2017. One of the projects we were most looking forward to sharing was a collaboration with Chicago-based wardrobe stylist, Alyssa Doorhy. Today, we’re so excited to finally introduce you to Alyssa and her fabulous company, CoChic Styling. Alyssa was wonderful enough to put together a list of 5 bridesmaid trends to inspire our 2017 and 2018 brides-to-be, which is what we’re talking about today. (And be sure to head over to her blog, where Shannon is featured!)
Choosing bridesmaid dresses can be super exciting for some brides-to-be, and completely overwhelming for others. Especially if you have a large bridal party, it’s important to take care in making these wardrobe decisions so that everything is cohesive on your big day. If you don’t want to go the traditional route, it helps to pay attention to what’s trending in ready-to-wear and runway fashion and choose your bridesmaids’ style based on a trend you’re loving. To steer you in the right direction, here are some trends I’m loving for 2017 bridesmaids!
1. Separates
We’ve been seeing separates become popular for brides, but they’re trending for bridesmaids, too! Pair a beautiful cardigan or a silk top with a tulle skirt, or opt for a convertible dress with a removable long skirt, so your ‘maids can dance the night away in a shorter dress at the reception.
2. Velvet
Velvet is a trend you’ve probably noticed in ready-to-wear fashion this winter. It works for bridesmaids for winter weddings in rich, tasteful hues like burgundy, black and emerald green. I’m a fan of mixing velvet with other textures so that it’s not a 90’s overload. ;)
3. Maid of Honor Dress
A trend for this year is allowing your maid of honor to stand out from the rest of your ‘maids by choosing a different style dress just for her. Just make sure the dress coordinates well with the other bridesmaid dresses, or she’ll be feeling more out of place than special.
4. Ombre Color Palette
You’ve seen mix and matched bridesmaid dresses, but this year it’s en vogue to use varying shades of the same colored dress. This makes it a little bit easier to ensure that your mixed and matched dresses coordinate with one another.
5. Mixed Metallics
We are still seeing mixed metallic dresses for 2017 bridesmaids. Mixing silver-grey, gold and rose gold is a gorgeous way to mix up your color scheme, and not commit to one color family. Mixing up the colors is also a great way to ensure that your bridesmaids look their best. Chances are if one of your bridesmaids doesn’t look great in gold, silver will work for her!
