If you follow any of the SG team members on Instagram, it will come as no secret to you that we are a bit dog-crazy. Shannon’s girls are Insta-famous, Bridget recently welcomed her sidekick, Ollie (who you may or may not find in her tote at a meeting ;)) and Samantha’s pups have been following her around the city for years. Thankfully, we’re in a city that is as welcoming to our fur kids as we are, so Samantha has rounded up her top dog friendly spots in Chicago!
To Shop:
Nordstrom Michigan Avenue – Dogs deserve the finer things in life, so take yours for a spin through the shoe section, bag department, and even up to the bar on the 2nd floor for a sip!
Marshall’s, TJ Maxx & Home Goods – While you may have been sold by the fabulousness of these stores regardless, the icing on the cake is that dogs are also welcome. Grab a cart and shop away!
To Eat:
Howell’s and Hood – Once you’ve hit Nordstrom & Home Goods, grab a bite at Howell’s and Hood. Their outdoor patio is one of the most sought after spots in the city and just happens to be pet-friendly… win, win!
Big Star – Housed in an old 1940’s gas station, this taqueria is known for it’s bourbon, tacos, and late-night music. The best part: they have a walk-up window fit for your furry friend. ;)
Crosby’s Kitchen – At Crosby’s, you can enjoy crab cakes, chicken + biscuits, baby back ribs, and smoky meats straight from the rotisserie… all while sitting & chatting with your pup by your side.
Starbucks – Any Starbucks location with a patio welcomes dogs. Must order: a complimentary “Puppuccino”
To Stay:
Kimpton Boutique Hotels – The Kimpton is known for being pet-friendly not only in Chicago, but across the country. With water bowls in the lobby, a pet concierge (yes, it’s actually a dog!), and a chalkboard “guest book” for each furry guest to sign, they’re one of our go-to staycations in the city. Added bonus: they won’t charge extra for your plus one. ;)
The Drake – Speaking of staycations, your dog is also welcome in one of the most historic and well known hotels in the city. Take your pup for a walk through the halls that Princess Diana, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Julia Roberts and Walt Disney once walked though, and don’t forget to check out the “Cape Cod Room” where Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe carved their initials in the bar.
To Do:
Mercury’s Canine Cruise – Come summertime, you can enjoy QT with your dog(s) while listening to a narration of Chicago’s rich history and architecture. The cruise offers plenty of safe outdoor seating, water bowls and a special newspaper-lined restroom.
Navy Pier – Dogs are allowed in all of the public common areas along the pier while many of the outdoor patios also welcome furry friends.
PAWS Chicago & Fur Ball – PAWS is an organization focused on implementing solutions to end the killing of homeless pets and helping them find their forever homes. Each year, they host Chicago’s only pet-friendly black tie event, the “Fur Ball, ” where you’re able to walk the red carpet with your pet, sip cocktails, dance, and participate in a silent auction.
