Restoration Hardware has recently become one of our favorite spots in the city. After a few lunches, coffee dates, and a few “just because” stops, RH has stolen our hearts and we are never turning back. It really is an oasis that is as beautiful as it is functional. There are countless places to sit and work, sit and chat, sit and eat, etc. but it’s also so visually appealing that you never want to leave. We think everyone can relate to that feeling of wanting to go home and redecorate after one step inside the beautiful RH Chicago. ;) After a few too many stops at this gorgeous space, we’ve detected a few styling rules that are easy to incorporate into your own home!
RULE #1 – BIGGER IS BETTER
Bigger couches, bigger tables, bigger chandeliers – all of the above. Nothing at RH is small or cheap looking. Everything is very big, grand, and sturdy. (i.e. the polar opposite of IKEA)
RULE #2 – STICK WITH SYMMETRY
You will not find any trendy, mis-matched decor at RH. Every inch of the place is symmetrical and has very clean lines throughout.
RULE #3 – CLASSIC IS KEY
One of the things to keep in mind when investing in good furniture is to choose something that will never go out of style. RH has a very modern/contemporary, but still very classic, feel. Whatever you buy from RH will be in your home for a very long time.
RULE #4 – EMPHASIZE ON LIGHTING
Almost every single room in the building has a show-stopping light fixture. Whether it’s a beautiful chandelier, or a pair of awesome sconces (or both!), lighting is never an afterthought – It’s the focal point of each room.
RULE #5 – YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL – COMFORT AND STYLE
The most important lesson of all is that just because your couch is gorgeous, doesn’t mean it can’t be a “watch a Bravo marathon” couch. Trust us, we’ve sat on melted into RH’s couches and they are no joke.
